What are we
The Crowsnest Pass Citizens on Patrol is a group of 40 (forty) volunteers working in conjunction with the local RCMP Detachment, trying to keep our community a safe place to live.
The Municipality of Crowsnest Pass is located in the south west corner of Alberta and is the amalgamation of 5 towns, emcompassing 15 kilometers of Highway #3, from Leitch Colleries Provincial Historical Site at Burmis in the east to the Alberta/British Columbia border in the west. Shortly after our inception in 1997 we saw a noticeable drop in vandalism in the area which was becoming a problem. In 2000 we hosted the Alberta Citizens on Patrol annual conference and it was at this conference that a provincial board was formed, helping all affiliates work under the same guideliines and operating in similar ways. In 2003 we aided with the evacuation centre as security when the Lost Creek fire had homes in both Hillcrest and Blairmore evacuated and the residents went to the local centre looking for a safe haven, calling it home for up to 20 days. In 2005 when a snow storm devastated the area and caused massive power failures, The Citizens on Patrol helped keep people warm and fed at the local centre until power was restored to their homes five days later. In conjunction with our local detachment, members have brought drug awareness seminars to the local schools, help with the bicycle safety workshop and we help as extra eyes and ears on the streets during major community functions, such as Rodeo Weekend, Bonspiel Weekends, Rum Runners Weekend, Pumpkins in the Park and Christmas in the Mountains. In September 2010 we will host the Annual Alberta Citizens on Patrol Association workshop at the MDM Facility Complex in Bellevue Alberta(ACOPA)
